The saviour of Times Square... Mickey Mouse?
Times Square — the crown jewel of New York and the Mecca for every insta baddie — was once a street littered with porn stores and adult clubs. 3 decades ago, the city of New York realized the revitalization of Times Square would lead to over 20,000 new jobs and over $300 million in revenue.
The city faced an uphill battle since no brand wanted to invest in Times Square, given its fruity history. This was until Disney's then CEO, Michael Eisner, a New York native, decided to buy and renovate the New Amsterdam Theatre — the oldest broadway theatre in the world (and, thanks to Disney, now the most famous). One $8 million investment in 1993 convinced countless brands to invest and join the revitalization effort that resulted in the Times Square we all see today.
The Mickey Mouse company turned a long forgotten district into the most sought-after 13 acres of commercial property in the world that over 360,000 individuals visit every single day.
